Experience
I studied Chemistry and Anthropology at the University of Idaho. I'm now completing my BS in Chemistry in California. My tutoring experience started while I was a college sophomore where I helped as a chemistry tutor. I have also been a special education assistant in both public elementary and continuation high schools. While I was assisting at the elementary level, I learned the importance of communication skills and how each student has a different level when it comes to learning. I've also learned the importance of balancing the social and directive needs of students. The effectiveness of tutoring and teaching comes from communication and trust that is built. Sometimes this requires that I slow the pace of teaching and reflect on the overall process as we build a foundation together. I enjoy working with students on chemistry courses. I see chemistry as a neatly-packed bundle of concepts that require a deep understanding of math, which I also studied in depth in my college education. I equate learning chemistry to learning a new language. Aside from chemistry and math courses of all levels, I'm available for English subjects and test prep, including the ACT, SAT, ACCUPLACER, CAHSEE, GRE, and CLEP. In my free time, I enjoy cooking, reading science-related non-fiction, and bicycling trails while stopping to perfect my photography skills.
